Q: What is Halitosis?
A: Halitosis is commonly known as bad breath

Q: What causes it?
A: There are several things that can cause Halitosis but the most common dental causes are tooth decay,
gum disease, tooth abscesses and oral cancer. Other common causes can be a sinus infection or
exerostomia (dry mouth) usually caused by a medication such as dylantin used in the treatment of diabetes.

Q: Can it be cured?
A: Yes in most cases it can be cured by having any dental decay replaced by fillings and having a
thorough cleaning. Or in the event of an abscess tooth having Root Canal Therapy. This along with good
home care usually clears up the problem.

Q: Can it be treated with antibiotics?
A: No because Antibiotics won’t be of any use in the case of halitosis unless there is a sinus infection in
which case the antibiotic clears up the sinus infection but not the Halitosis

Q: How can I prevent Halitosis?
A: One of the main ways is to practice good home care and have regular checkups with your dentist for
cavity detection and cleanings

Q: Will it come back?
A: Not as a rule if good home care is practiced and you have regular checkups and cleanings at the dentist office.

Q: What are the symptoms?
A: The most common symptom is a bad odor coming from the mouth and a sour or bad taste.
Some other symptoms might be a white or yellow film on the tongue caused by bacteria or white
nodules on the tongue or tonsils. Also post nasal drip which often means a sinus infection or a dry
mouth usually caused by medication.

Q: What exactly is Tooth Whitening?
A:  It is the whitening of the teeth sometimes referred to as bleaching. Over the years we get a buildup of
organic pigments on our teeth turning them yellowish in color. With tooth whitening we can regain the
natural whiteness of our teeth and in most cases we can even go lighter.

Q: What do they use to whiten the teeth?
A:  They use a peroxide based gel called Carbamide Peroxide or Hydrogen Peroxide

Q: Will it hurt my tooth enamel?
A: No there is no damage done to the teeth at all.

Q: Will my teeth be sensitive?
A: You might experience some sensitivity but usually if you use a desensitizing tooth paste it will control
any sensitivity you may. Also depending on how and when you use the gel can make a difference but you
will be advised about this at your dental office.

Q: Will my teeth get yellow again?
A: You may notice a slight change in color several months down the road but that can be taken care of in
just a couple of nights every 6 months or so. A lot depends on you if you are a smoker or if you drink a lot
of tea or coffee you might notice a change sooner. Generally though your teeth will not return to the color
they were when you started.

Q: Why can’t I just buy it from the pharmacy?
A: The product that a pharmacy or any other store can sell you is not nearly as effective as what you can
get from your dentist.

Q: I have seen whitening toothpaste does it work?
A: No it will not whiten your teeth but it will help to keep things nice after your bleaching is completed.

Q: How long does it take?
A: It usually takes 2-3 weeks but there are a few things to take into consideration. First of all the color of
your teeth when you begin the treatment and how light you want your teeth to be. Also the frequency of
use of the product.

Q:  How do I put it on my teeth?
A:  Your dentist will make you some soft plastic trays that will fit over your teeth. These are usually quite
comfortable and people hardly notice that they have them in their mouth.

Q: I have heard of in office treatment and home treatment. What is the difference?
A: One is done in the dental chair and is usually done in about one hour. The other is done at home and
can take a few weeks.

Q: Is one better than the other?
A: Not necessarily, it is dependant on you. Some people want immediate results while others don’t mind
taking the time to do it at home. However when you have it done in the office it is often recommended that
you continue at home for a week or so to get the final results that you want to achieve.

Q: Do they use the same product to do in office whitening that is used at home?
A: Basically yes but you may have heard of laser whitening and this is a special light that is used when
whitening the teeth in the office. It is a blue laser type light that speeds up the process of the whitening.

Q: Is the laser light safe?
A: Yes it is safe although you may feel some sensitivity.

Q:  What is Invisalign?
A:  Invisalign is a relatively new way of straightening the teeth without the conventional system of brackets using 3D computer imaging to make custom aligners that go from start to finish changing them every couple of weeks.

Q:  Is it better than brackets?
A:  It has a lot of advantages that brackets don’t have

Q:  What are the advantages of Invisalign?
A:   In the conventional system of using brackets it was difficult to keep the teeth clean and the gums
healthy. With Invisalign because they are removable it is easy to brush and floss therefore keeping the
mouth in a healthy condition. Also with brackets they were visible so every knew you were straightening
your teeth with Invisalign they are virtually invisible so people can’t really see them.

Q:  Can I eat with them?
A:  Yes all you have to do is remove them and then after your finished put them back in your mouth.

Q:  Are they comfortable?
A:  Unlike the conventional method Invisalign is a very comfortable system. There are no brackets to irritate
the lips and because they are made so precisely they just fit on the teeth and one can barely tell that they
have them in. Also because you can keep your mouth and gums in a healthy condition by being able to
clean properly there isn’t that feeling of irritation in the mouth that there is with brackets

Q:  Are they as effective as brackets and wires?
A:  Yes they are as effective as brackets with only little or no discomfort

Q:  How do they work?
A:  They work in increments. About every two weeks they are replaced with new appliances that are made
especially for the individual until the desired result is reached.

Q:  Is it expensive?
A:  Orthodontics is general expensive but it depends on the complexity of the case. Invisalign is a little
more costly but the benefits are greater.

Q:  How long has Invisalign been around.
A:  Since 1997

Q:  What are the trays made of?
A:  They are made of a clear medical plastic

Q:  Can I get them from my regular dentist?
A:  No,  you can only get them from the Invisalign certified dentist who taking Invisalign course.
Call us today for your appointment.

Q:  What exactly are dental implants?
A:  They are like a root replacement because they are anchored into the bone.

Q:  What are they made of?
A:  Usually Titanium.

Q:  How successful are dental implants?
A:  They are extremely successful if they are taken care of.

Q:  How do I take care of them?
A:  Dental implants must be kept clean for long term success. Your dentist will give you complete
instructions to ensure that your implants last a very long time.

Q:  Are they painful to have done?
A:  Not any more painful that having a tooth removed providing you follow the post surgical instructions that
you will be given at the time of treatment. A medication for pain will probably be prescribed at that time also.

Q:  Can I have them done at my regular dental clinic?
A:  If there is a Prosthodontist on staff yes you can because it takes special training to do implants and to
have them be successful. If there isn’t a specialist on staff at your regular clinic you will be referred to one.

Q:  Are implants safe?
A:  Yes completely, because they are made of titanium which is know for it’s biological compatibility with
the human body.

Q:  Why are they so expensive?
A:  In the whole scheme of things when you consider the time involved and the team of specialists who are
involved and the knowledge that is needed to ensure success implants on a whole are not expensive
.
