Getting Dental Implants: Not As Scary As You Think (A Simple Step-by-Step Guide)

Getting Dental Implants: Not As Scary As You Think (A Simple Step-by-Step Guide)

If you are living in Australia, you know all too well that dental costs there can be shockingly high. Often, when faced with a missing tooth or a quote for major restoration work, many people choose to just "live with the gap."

But ignoring a missing tooth can lead to bone loss, shifting teeth, and a hit to your long-term confidence.

The good news? Fixing your smile doesn’t have to be a heavy financial burden or a scary experience anymore. At Bangkok Smile Dental Clinic, we combine world-class expertise with reasonable pricing. Here is why the process is smoother than you might think.

Why It’s Not Scary (And Why It’s Worth It)

Forget the old images of difficult dental work. Modern dentistry is all about precision. We are part of the Dr. Paulo Malo Global Network, a world leader in dental implant innovation. This means you receive the same standard of dental implants you would expect from a clinic in Sydney or Melbourne, but at a much more affordable price.

Our team of dentists is ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists) accredited. We use advanced 3D technology and premium materials like Nobel Biocare, so you can rest assured you are in expert hands.

The Process: From Inquiry to a New Smile

To help you plan your trip (and your leave from work), here is exactly what happens at each step:

1. The Assessment (No Hidden Surprises)

Before you even book a flight, you can email us photos of your teeth. Our team will provide an initial evaluation. Once you arrive in Thailand, we use a 3D CT Scan to check your jawbone density. This ensures your dental implants have the most stable foundation possible.

2. Understanding the Treatment: The 2-Trip Approach

For safety and the best possible results, dental implants are not done in a single go. The treatment is divided into 2 main trips:

Trip 1: The Surgical Stage

In this round, the doctor will plan the treatment and surgically place the implant (Titanium screw) into your jawbone.

  • Time needed in Thailand: We recommend allowing at least 7 full days (excluding travel days).

  • Flying Restrictions: After surgery, the doctor advises resting and observing symptoms for at least 5–7 days before flying home.

    • The Reason: Cabin pressure on a plane can affect the surgical wound, potentially causing bleeding, swelling, or the wound opening up. For your safety, we need to ensure the healing has started well before you fly.

(After this, there is a waiting period of about 4–6 months to let the implant fuse strongly with the bone. The exact time depends on the doctor’s assessment of your bone condition.)

Trip 2: The Crown Placement

Once the site has healed and the implant is solid, you return for the final step: attaching the permanent crown to the implant.

  • Time needed in Thailand: This also requires at least 7 full days (excluding travel days) for impressions, lab production, and fitting the crown perfectly.

FAQs: Will I have a gap during the 4-6 month wait?

Many patients worry about having a missing tooth while waiting for the bone to fuse. This depends on the location of the tooth:

1. Back Teeth (Molars):

  • Recommendation: We usually recommend leaving the space empty.

  • Why: If it’s a spot that isn't visible when you smile, it is better to avoid putting any pressure on the new implant or the wound. This helps it heal faster and stronger.

2. Front Teeth (Visible when smiling):

  • Recommendation: You can wear a temporary tooth. For aesthetics and confidence, the doctor can provide a temporary solution (such as a removable partial denture) to fill the gap.

  • Note: If you are comfortable with the gap and not worried about looks, you don't have to wear one.

3. Is there an extra cost for the temporary tooth?

  • Yes, there is an additional cost. It is charged separately from the dental implant price. The cost depends on the type and material of the temporary denture the doctor recommends for your specific case.

Why Choose Thailand for Dental Implants?

It is not just about the cheaper price tag; it is about upgrading your quality of life. Dental implants offer a permanent result that removable dentures just can’t match. No more slipping, speech issues, or avoiding social meals.
